The Story of DJBFarms
DJBFarms was born from a simple, yet profound, idea: to connect with the land and farm in a way that heals both the soil and the people who depend on it. This journey began even before DJBNaturals, when I first discovered the principles of small-scale, regenerative agriculture.
I was inspired by Joel Salatin’s book, You Can Farm. In it, he talks about the power of taking real steps towards your dreams. If you want to be a farmer, you must act like one. My first step was to change my major to Agricultural Business Management and officially start an LLC. At the time, I didn't know what I would sell or when I would truly farm, but I knew that I was all in. That’s where DJBFarms LLC began.
My dream has always been to create a place I call The Ark—an oasis from the busy, chaotic lives we lead. A place where humans and nature work together, providing for each other in harmony. I saw myself using grazing cattle to improve the soil and produce the most nutrient-dense meat possible.The problem? Cattle require a lot of land and a significant financial investment before you see a return.
From Dream to Reality
That's when I found a different path to the same destination. I realized goats are also incredible land managers, and unlike with cattle, people will actually pay you to let your animals improve their land! While my clients might not realize it, my ultimate goal is to bring grazing animals back to their natural habitat in people's backyards to improve the soil’s water-holding capacity, draw down carbon, and create a truly sustainable product.
These smaller-scale enterprises are the foundation. For now, I have access to 40 acres of land, free housing, and funding from the hard work at DJBNaturals and my off-farm construction job.
My dream is to scale these enterprises, add more as resources become available, and build a global community of farmers who share this vision. DJBFarms is more than a business; it’s a commitment to a life of purpose and a testament to the power of a regenerative mindset.
